The much reported case of the Texas would-be jihadists is another reminder that more young Muslim men in the Western diaspora either join terrorist organizations like ISIS in Syria, Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, or Al-Shabaab in Somalia—or act in the name of these groups in their homeland. Even more shocking is that Western girls and women leave their families and friends and secretly travel to Syria—often to immediately marry a jihadist they “met” via social media or ISIS’s marriage bureau.
E-International Relations, a popular website for scholars and students of international relations just published my article “Western Women, Fandom, and ISIS,” in which I share some ideas of how to perhaps get greater inside in the radicalization and recruitment of female Muslims in the West.
