This time the ultimately nightmare for parents had a happy ending: The three teenage girls from Colorado who last Friday traveled abroad to join the ISIS terrorist organization were stopped at Frankfurt airport before they could board a plane to Turkey. They were put on a plane back to Denver where their parents waited for their return.
As the Denver Post reports, last week, when the parents learned that their daughters had not gone to school but disappeared with their passports and money taken from one home, they immediately alerted the police. In this case, the quick action of worried parents did not only stop their daughters from making their way to ISIS-held territory but may spare their off-springs any prosecution for planning to join and assist a terrorist group.
As the FBI examines the computers of the 17- and 15-year old sisters of Somali descent and their 16-year old friend of Sudanese background, the agents will most likely find social media sites designed to convince western Muslims und in particular young female Muslims to fulfill the will of Allah by joining ISIS in Syria.
When I first listened to a short news report about the three teenagers’ interrupted trip, I was not at all surprised. I have seen too many internet sites designed to spread ISIS and Al Qaeda propaganda and indoctrinate vulnerable young Muslims in the West to join the jihad in what is described as defense of Islam against the onslaught of infidels. Increasingly, there are sites especially targeting young girls and women.
Here are a few examples of questions that young Muslim females posted to their ISIS “sister” and her answers that I took from the social media site of a young woman who left her home somewhere in northern Europe against the will of her parents joining ISIS and now utilizing social media to lure others, especially young females, to follow her example:
[Question] Anonymous: hello sister! I am 17 years old and I want to come to Syria very much. I have done my research but the only obstacle i am facing is my family. They have no Idea i want to join isis. I want to come very badly but how? do i leave without telling them? what did you do?
[Answer] I tried giving them daw’ah. They were completely at the end spectrum of the correct aqeeda, then I knew they would be an obstacle, so I came without telling them.
